Color balance is always critical in color digital photography but more so when shooting fall foliage in ambient lighting. Auto white balance settings on digital cameras are pretty good but not perfect. I use the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport color calibration target. All I do is take a picture of the target in the same light as my subject, then use the white balance dropper tool in Lightroom and it balances my photo perfectly. It really takes the guess work out of post processing your images. Ill be using and demonstrating this tool this weekend during one of our photo workshops in Bishop. Email me if you have any questions. By the way, it folds up and fits in your shirt pocket.
