Prep football roundup: Folsom withstands Casa Roble

Matt Richard kicked a 20-yard field goal with one second remaining, and No. 5 Folsom rallied from two touchdowns behind in the second half to defeat No. 18 Casa Roble 30-27 Friday night in Orangevale.

Mitch Samson threw four consecutive touchdown passes – two to Frankie Patlano and two to Tyler Young – to give Casa Roble a 27-13 lead in the third quarter, before Tanner Trosin scored on runs of four and three yards to tie the score and set up Richard's winning kick.

Trosin completed 29 of 42 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries for Folsom (4-1).

Samsom completed 16 of 27 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns, and Young had six catches for 185 yards and two touchdowns for Casa Roble (3-2).

No. 4 Grant 17, Merced 3 in Del Paso Heights – The Pacers (3-2) tuned up for their Delta Valley Conference opener against No. 3 Elk Grove on Friday by beating the tenacious Bears (1-3) as Shaq Thompson rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

No. 6 Granite Bay 27, Pittsburg 7 in Pittsburg – Nick Bermudez kicked a 43-yard field goal, and Arik Bird scored on a one-yard run. The touchdown followed a 43-yard interception return. Those scores kick-started the Grizzlies (4-1) to a win over the Pirates (3-2) from the North Coast Section.

No. 10 Placer 55, El Dorado 13 in Auburn – The Hillmen roared to a 48-7 halftime lead en route to an easy win over the Cougars on homecoming night.

Several members of Placer's 1981 section championship football team, which beat Mira Loma 30-7 at American River College, were present. That team was coached by Tom Johnson and Bill Miller, the grandfather of current Hillmen coach Joey Montoya.

No. 18 Colfax 49, Wheat- land 12 in Wheatland – The Falcons (5-0) scored on their first six possessions against the Pirates (4-1) en route to a 42-0 first-half lead and a surprisingly easy win in a battle of unbeatens.

Hunter Perez rushed for 203 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries, and Sam Quinlan caught three touchdown passes from Austin Young, all in the first half.

No. 19 Burbank 46, Sacramento 28 at Burbank – Isaiah Williams scored four first-half rushing touchdowns to lead the Titans (4-1, 2-0) past the Dragons (1-4, 1-1) in the Metro Conference game.

McClatchy 14, Kennedy 0 in Greenhaven – Charlie Tschudin caught an 80-yard scoring strike from Nick Modar, and Kijafa Burgie scored on a one-yard plunge in a game that was halted with five minutes to play in the fourth quarter because of an altercation between the teams.

"The emotions got the best of both of us," said McClatchy coach Malcolm Floyd. "It was a hard-fought game. Our defensive effort was incredible."

McClatchy improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the Metro Conference. Kennedy fell to 0-5 and 0-2.

No. 8 Oak Ridge 48, Fairfield 6 in Fairfield – The Trojans (4-1) exploded for 28 points in the third quarter to defeat the Falcons (1-4). Shay Mueller rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown for the Trojans.

No. 16 Woodcreek 35, No. 11 Whitney 13 in Rocklin – Behind the passing of Stephen Nogosek, the Timberwolves (4-1) defeated the Wildcats (3-2).

Vista del Lago 41, River City 14 in Folsom – Aaron Young threw four touchdown passes, including 89- and 73-yard scoring strikes to state receiving leader Logan Smith, as the Eagles (4-2, 2-0) defeated the Raiders (4-2, 1-1) in a Sierra Valley Conference game. Ethan Pipion rushed for two touchdowns for Vista.

Antelope 38, Center 13 in Antelope – Marquell Vines rushed for a 50-yard touchdown and scored on two five-yard runs, and Tyler Winston returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown as the Titans (2-3) defeated the visiting Cougars (2-3) in the battle of Antelope rivals.

It was Antelope's third consecutive win over Center.

Foresthill 28, Delta 0 in Foresthill – Zach Moss caught touchdown passes of four and 19 yards from Tommy Sawyer as the Wildfires (5-1, 4-0) defeated the Saints (3-3, 3-1) in a battle of Sacramento Metro Athletic League unbeatens.

Woodland 48, Mira Loma 0 in Woodland – Dalen Jones passed for 212 yards and three touchdowns, including 62- and 42-yarders to Forest Roberts, and rushed for 103 yards as the Wolves (4-1) routed the Matadors (2-3).

Capital Christian 27, Calaveras 12 in Sacramento – Austin Wolfe rushed for touchdowns of 65 and three yards to lead the Cougars (2-3) past the Redskins (2-3).
