PG&E to tell Roseville City Council about gas pipe rupture

Pacific Gas & Electric officials will address Roseville residents' concerns about last week's pipe rupture and fire at today's City Council meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at 311 Vernon St.

Later tonight, utility crews hope to begin the three- to four-week job of replacing the damaged pipe.

The Sept. 27 pipeline rupture at Cirby Way and Riverside Avenue sent flames shooting into the air for seven hours and closed the roadway for 12 hours.

It was the second leak from that section of pipe. A September 2010 leak occurred 150 feet from last week's leak.

This time, the entire 400-foot section will be replaced, said Paul Moreno, a spokesman for the utility.

The section of pipe being replaced is a plastic 4-inch distribution line installed in 1981, he said.

Cirby Way and Riverside Avenue will remain partially open for traffic as work crews begin carving up the roadway to replace the pipe. Work crews are expected to work 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sundays through Fridays.
