Bobby Heatherington's four-yard touchdown pass to Russell Smith with 24 seconds left lifted No. 2 Del Oro to a 35-31 win over No. 8 Nevada Union on Friday night in Grass Valley.

After Del Oro (6-1, 2-0 Sierra Foothill League) stopped Nevada Union (4-3, 0-2) on a fake punt, Heatherington, who finished with 17 completions in 20 attempts for 199 yards, drove the Golden Eagles down the field, completing all four of his passes during the decisive drive.

The senior quarterback passed for 479 yards and five touchdowns, three to Doug Vernon. Josh Hadley rushed for 190 yards and three scores for Sheldon (4-3, 1-1).

Colfax set up a showdown Friday at No. 9 Placer.

"You really have to credit our senior leaders who have played since they were sophomores – Jalen Angel-White, Randolph Stewart, Isaac Brown and Brandon Johnson," said Sacramento coach Paul Doherty. "They are every-down players."

Blazers forfeit game – Lindhurst (1-6, 1-1) forfeited its Battle of the Bell rivalry football game against visiting Marysville (2-5, 1-1) after at least eight Lindhurst students reportedly were involved in vandalism on the Marysville campus before school opened Friday.

Because of disciplinary action against the students, Lindhurst officials said there weren't enough players to field a varsity team for the Golden Empire League game.

The Marysville Appeal-Democrat reported that several areas of the Marysville High campus had been defaced with paint, including the face of an Indian logo – the school's mascot – on the sidewalk near the gym, before school officials quickly did their best to clean up the damage.
