Poll
Do you think the UFL should come back for a fourth season?
Your vote has been counted, thank you for voting.
We've tried to like it, we've tried to support it, but isn't it time for the UFL to just go away?
Minor league pro football is a lame idea financially especially when the NFL's popularity is soaring and its true feeder program, college football, dominates TV on Saturdays.
These kinds of minor leagues have come and gone over the years.
Remember the World League of American Football and the Sacramento Surge 20 years ago? The team regularly drew about 20,000 fans, and it won the World Bowl in 1992. The 10-team league even had some backing from the NFL, yet it lasted just two years.
Maybe the UFL should have pulled the plug after two years, too and a reported $100 million in losses.
In August, the league delayed its third season, dropped a franchise and shortened the schedule from eight to six games. This week, the final two weeks of the regular season were canceled and the championship game was moved up to Friday.
And, in one of the craziest things we've ever heard, the league announced a "consolation game" between the two other teams, the Mountain Lions and Omaha, both 1-3.
Seriously?
The Mountain Lions had decent crowds even if we don't believe the official figures but, as league consultant Jerry Glanville pointed out, it's not the gate that matters, it's TV money. And no network will give a contract to a four-team league playing a four-game season.
League officials said they cut the season so they can come back stronger next year.
Why do some smart, rich people willingly throw money away?
