Halloween parties for adults and kids in Reno

Published: Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 - 12:00 am | Page 16I

Halloween weekend this year in Reno will offer special parties for both kids and adults, but Reno being Reno, most of the parties are clearly for adults only.

The biggest is Saturday's Zombie Crawl ("Being dead is no reason to quit drinking," read the ads.) when a few hundred zombies are expected to start out at 8 p.m. in several downtown pubs to benefit the American Red Cross (although any donation of their blood will clearly have to wait a few days). Five bucks buys a cup and a map, and allows for $2 and $3 drink specials along the way. New this year will include the sight of a flock of zombies climbing the new wall at CommRow at the Reno Arch.

The Silver Legacy, at 407 N. Virginia St., will have its 11th annual Wild Erotic Ball at 9 p.m. Friday with a costume contest ($25 advance, $35 at door; 800-687-8733 or silverlegacy.com), plus parties in Aura Lounge and Rum Bullions ($10), both featuring costume contests. (Rum Bullions has a special prize for best pirate/ bar wench couple.)

The Eldorado is changing the names and décor of its clubs for the parties on Friday and Saturday, the Brew Brothers becoming the Blood Brothers, BuBinga becoming Zombie Lounge, Cin Cin becoming Sin Sin, and Bar Centro converting to Mummy Centro. ($5 gets a wristband for all venues, beginning at 10 p.m.; $10 if you are not in costume; eldoradoreno.com; 345 N. Virginia St.)

For the family, check out the Downtown Reno Riverwalk Merchants Halloween Hollow "Monsters and Mayhem," with free family games, entertainment, and more. On Saturday, youngsters can get a treasure map to locate treats at participating merchants from 4-7 p.m., and the band Drinking with Clowns will play on the main plaza stage.

"Howl-o-ween" will be celebrated with a doggie costume contest at 6:30 p.m. Saturday (The $10 entry fee goes to the SPCA.), followed by the Pup Crawl with Pup treat stops.
