The University of California, Davis, announced Tuesday that it is launching a new institute devoted to education, research and outreach in innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Child Family Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was made possible through a $5 million commitment from alumni Mike and Renee Child, both 1976 UCD graduates.
UCD Chancellor Linda Katehi said the institute will "help UC Davis assume a global leadership role in entrepreneurship and innovation, building on our already strong foundation in these areas."
Officials said the institute will consolidate UCD initiatives in a wide variety of fields, including biotechnology, engineering, medicine, business and science.
