Sacramento area neighborhoods and parkways are lined with rows of trees exploding with beautiful fall color. The entire area is in full color.
Last week we discussed and photographed color in the Sacramento area and the Amador County wine country (see Top 10 places for fall color in the Sacramento region).
This week I photographed the Rocklin, Gold River and Auburn areas and found the color to be peak everywhere.
Three top picks for Placer County
I was very impressed with the oaks at Gold River Park, at Gold Country Boulevard and Poker Flat Drive in Gold River. This was a great relief because I love the colors oaks can turn and we didn't get any oak color in Yosemite this year. Check the gallery for the photos.
Auburn has a wonderful tree walk sponsored by Placer Tree Partners. The walking map is downloadable from their website and describes 50 trees in a walking loop that begins and ends in Old Town Auburn. The trees are marked with numbered medallions and the sidewalk painted with numbers. If you've ever had difficulty
identifying various trees, this walk will really help.
A reader suggested visiting Lakes Nursery in Newcastle, so I added it to this week's coverage of Auburn. They specialize in Japanese maples and cover five acres. The colors were wonderful. The garden sculptures are impressive beginning with the spectacular horse statue in front of the grounds.
Check their website for directions as they are located in a secluded area in the hills above Newcastle.
Weather
