The Sacramento Public Library is hosting a holiday food and clothing drive at several of its library branches:
Robbie Waters Pocket-Greenhaven Library, 7335 Gloria Drive, Sacramento: The library branch's Teen Advisory Board is collecting canned food through Nov. 30.
Sylvan Oaks Library, 6700 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights: For the eighth year, the branch is participating in the News10 Coats for Kids program. Used or new coats can be donated at the library branch through Dec. 7.
Colonial Heights Library, 4799 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento: The library branch is participating in the Keeping Kids Warm children's coat donation drive, organized as a senior class project of Sacramento's West Campus High School. The coat donation deadline is Dec. 15.
Kids' Place, Central Library, 828 I St., Sacramento: Donate clothing and nonperishable food through Dec. 15 to benefit the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. When kids and teens donate items to the drive, they may choose a free age-appropriate book to keep. Library visitors may donate multiple items and times; however, only one book will be given per child while supplies last.
Elk Grove Library, 8900 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove: A canned food drive is being held at the branch through Dec. 23 to benefit the Elk Grove Food Closet.

Superior Vision is holding its third annual Holiday Food Drive to benefit the Cordova Community Food Locker in Rancho Cordova. Canned or boxed nonperishable food items may be dropped off between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Superior Vision, 11101 White Rock Road, Rancho Cordova. Superior Vision offices will close at 2 p.m. today and reopen Monday. The food drive will continue through Dec. 22.
The Sacramento Women's Chorus will hold its Sock It To The Holidays concert and singalong Dec. 12 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at First Christian Church, 3901 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. Donations of socks, warm clothing and canned or nonperishable goods are requested. The goods will benefit Maryhouse and Wellspring. Refreshments will be served. The Salvation Army will be preparing to serve 500 meals from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at 1200 N. B St. Last year, nearly 600 people took part in the free meal.
The 2011 Military Children's Toy Drive kickoff is planned Saturday at the Green Acres Nursery, 910 Galleria Blvd., Roseville. The Patriot Guard Riders will help launch the event by arriving on motorcycles with their donations. People can donate toys from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily at the Green Acres Nursery in Roseville and at 8501 Jackson Road in Sacramento. The toys will be distributed Dec. 17 at the fourth annual Military Santa Claus Christmas Party at the California Army National Guard's Roseville Readiness Center. The party is free for all active duty military families deployed, stateside or if your child lost a parent serving in Afghanistan or Iraq. For more information, call (916) 223-6816.
On Dec. 3, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District will participate in the Coats for Kids campaign, sponsored by News10 (KXTV). The public is welcome to drop off coats at:

Station 50, 8880 Gerber Road, Sacramento.
Station 65, 11201 Coloma Drive, Rancho Cordova.

The city of Citrus Heights and the Citrus Heights Police Department seek the help of service clubs, businesses, schools and residents to assist families in need through the city's third annual Holiday Referral Program. Individuals and groups can adopt families for the holiday season, providing them with clothes, toys for the children, food for the holidays and household items. People also are sought to donate gift items and volunteer their time to coordinate the event.

Stanford Settlement's Operation Cratchit provides Christmas baskets of food and toys to Sacramento's north area residents and families. Donated items sought are nonperishable food, including baby food; new, unwrapped toys and gift items for children and teens; new Christmas wrapping paper (provided to parents after they select their gifts); and cash contributions for gift certificates and toys. Through Dec. 16, the El Dorado Hills Firefighters Association will be helping the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve collect toys for less privileged children of El Dorado County. Firefighters have set up toy collection bins at businesses around the county, as well as at any El Dorado Hills fire station.
Sacramento-Yolo Mutual Housing representatives are providing gifts for children. The association develops and operates affordable rental housing. The communities have 2,600 residents, half of whom are children. People can help by dropping off nonperishable food and new, unwrapped children's gifts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Dec. 22 at the Mutual Housing office, 8001 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento. At 10 a.m. Friday, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, along with Thrift Recycling, will deliver gently used donated books to Foothill Oaks Elementary School, 5520 Lancelot Drive, Sacramento. The school has requested 800 books for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Sacramento Metro Fire Engine 25 will accompany Thrift volunteers for the delivery. The fire district has committed all 30,000 pounds of already donated books and has extended the book drop-off program through January. Donations may be made at large book bins at any Metro Fire station.
The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors staff and clerk of the board staff will conduct a holiday crafts sale, gourmet bake sale and toy drive Tuesday. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the administration building, 700 H St., Sacramento. All proceeds will benefit St. John's Shelter for Women and Children in Sacramento. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department's Toy Project, teaming with the Salvation Army, will provide toys and Christmas dinners for families in the unincorporated areas of the county and Rancho Cordova. The project also builds toys and repairs bicycles year-round. The toys and bikes are distributed to deserving children during the holiday season. The Folsom Police Department is collecting food and toys for the 2011 Folsom Christmas Basket Project. Items can be dropped off at the Folsom Police Department, Folsom Fire Station 35, the Senior/Arts Center, the Sports Complex and City Hall. A toy-collection truck will be available at the Sutter Street Tree Lighting on Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Christmas Craft Fair. A toy drive also will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Walmart shopping center. Those who donate a toy will receive a free photo with Santa.
