Katherine L. Albiani Middle School in Elk Grove was named a model school in the California Schools to Watch – Taking Center Stage program last week.
The program identifies high-performing middle schools that demonstrate social equity and responsiveness to the needs of young people, according to state officials.
Albiani Middle and three other California schools were added to the list of model middle schools this year.
Eleven other middle schools retained the status. Local schools that stayed on the list include Silverado Middle School in Roseville and Toby Johnson Middle School in Elk Grove.
Educators from California and other states visit the schools seeking ways to improve their programs and close the achievement gap.
The schools will be formally recognized for the achievement at a lunch- eon during the California League of Middle Schools conference in Sacramento in February.
