A 50-year deal is ridiculous
Re "Plan for parking draws interest" (Page A1, Dec. 9): Is it wise to commit parking revenue for 50 years to build an arena that would be obsolete in 20 years? Arco Arena was declared obsolete at just 16 years old.
We should not commit public resources for any longer period than the private parties can be faithful to us.

Bidders seek parking payday
Bidders must be salivating over Sacramento's plan to privatize city parking. The plan anticipates revenue ranging to as much as $200 million. Mayor Kevin Johnson and the City Council seem to be supporting this idea.
Worse, nowhere in the article is there mention of what current parking funds are used for and how that hole will be filled.

Girls need parents, not Plan B
Re "Plan B decision criticized as political move" (Page A11, Dec. 9): If there are so many girls who are 16 years old and younger who are having sex that people think they should have unlimited access to a morning-after pill, this country has a problem far more serious than the debate over the pill itself.
It is ludicrous to think of a 12-year-old girl going into a store to buy bubble gum, a comic book and morning after pills. Where are the parents?

Obama demonizes GOP
Re "Obama: All deserve a 'fair shot' " (Page A12, Dec. 7): President Barack Obama obviously used Teddy Roosevelt to further his agenda. TR made that speech in Kansas while running as the candidate for his Bull Moose Party, and lost.
Obama channels whomever he needs to fit the moment, including President Ronald Reagan and President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to dazzle voters with fancy political footwork.
Obama and his minions are undermining our Constitution with government growth, and disintegrating representative democracy in America.
Demonizing congressional Republicans and Newt Gingrich follows the pattern.

New Brown same as old Brown
Re "Brown takes tax hike to voters" (Capitol & California, Dec. 6): Gov. Jerry Brown must think California voters are gullible. He was elected promising to be everything he wasn't as governor a generation ago. That didn't last long.
Brown warns of doom for education and public safety if taxes aren't raised. Didn't he just sign the "DREAM Act," to give money to illegal aliens for college?
My son's tuition at Cal State is going up and his loans will be bigger, but someone who is here illegally can get free money to go to school?
People fell for Brown's "I've changed" act. Hopefully, they will see the light when it's time to vote for new taxes.

Grant condemned man's wish
Re "Let death row inmate live" (Letters, Nov. 30): Eugene Elzufon makes a valid argument from a financial perspective about having too many inmates on death row.
However, moving death row inmate Jerry Stanley to a life sentence will not make this world a better place, nor will keeping him on death row.
Respect the man's wish, and expedite his execution date. Why keep a person in prison after that individual has acknowledged the horror of his actions?
Santos Morales, Sacramento
Trickle down has left a mess
Re "Not much has trickled down" (Letters, Dec. 7): I agree with letter writer Rich Quinley's observations regarding the trickle-down theory.
The only trickle down that is evident is what little splashes over the levees built of lobbyists, politicians, lawyers and accountants, holding back the river of wealth flowing into the coffers of the rich and famous.
We have a huge mess on our hands.

Here's a high concept
Re "Baldwin apologizes to passengers, not airline" (Names & Faces, Dec. 8): Maybe Alec Baldwin and Charlie Sheen could create a new sitcom titled "Two Half-Crazed Men."
