Old Sacramento's "Theatre of Lights" continues its high-tech, old school Christmas celebration with its live staging of the classic poem "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," first published anonymously in 1823 but now generally attributed to Clement Clarke Moore.
The Old Sacramento version is hosted by Mark Twain, who gets in by way of his well-known early days as a journalist in and around Northern California. The light show has visual and aural effects that combine with live performers on the balconies and rooftops of the buildings on K Street between Front and Second streets.

Last chance for holiday theater
"White Christmas," the popular musical based on the 1954 film starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera Allen and Rosemary Clooney, takes its final bows at 7 p.m. today. The brilliant Irving Berlin-penned score features a bushel of great tunes including "Blue Skies," "How Deep Is the Ocean" and of course, the title song, "White Christmas." Sutter Street Theatre reprises its popular original production of "Holiday in the Hills."
The production, set in the late 1800s on Sutter Street in Folsom, was written by Connie Mockenhaupt and Mike Jimena, directed by Mockenhaupt, and has musical accompaniment by John Wilder. All of the characters are said to have either lived in or visited Folsom during the time, though a little creative liberty may have been taken with the actual events. 8 p.m. today at the Sutter Street Theatre, 717 Sutter St., Folsom. Sutter Street doesn't let up with the holiday cheer as the theater presents "The Magic Toyshop" this weekend as well.
