A weak Pacific storm is moving through the Pacific northwest and is forecast to bring light snowfall to the far Northern California, but no rainfall to Sacramento.
About all the Sacramento region is predicted to experience is an increasing cloud cover. The clouds have already had some influence, however, keeping last night's temperatures in the 40s.
The area has been experiencing many nights of below freezing weather, but mild overnight conditions are forecast through New Year's Eve. Streets should be dry New Year's Eve, but watch out for fog after 10 p.m. in Sacramento.
The extended forecast for the Sacramento region:
Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Light and variable wind.
Tonight: Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. Calm wind becoming south southeast around 5 mph.
Thursday: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 60. Light and variable wind.
Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. South wind around 6 mph.
Friday: A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. South wind around 5 mph.
Friday night: Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.
Saturday: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 58.
Saturday night: Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.
New Year's Day: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 58.
Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.
Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 58.
Monday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 58.
