The greatest chance for a sprinkling of rain in the Sacramento region is forecast for Friday morning.
The National Weather Service said that a moist westerly flow is traveling across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean this morning. Most of the impact from the weather system will be experienced in Oregon and extreme northwestern California.
Some light rain is possible over Shasta County and the Lassen Park area.
In the Central Valley, high clouds will be present today, with the sun breaking through at times. Temperatures are expected to reach the 60s again today in Sacramento.
Only .02 of an inch of rain is forecast to fall in Sacramento either Thursday night or Friday morning. Look for about a quarter of an inch in Redding.
Snow levels are expected to fall to near the 5,500-7,000 feet elevation by late Friday evening, forecasters reported.
The forecast for the Sacramento region:
Today: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 60. Light and variable wind.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. South wind around 6 mph.
Friday: A 20 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 58. South southeast wind between 6 and 10 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Friday Night: Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 38. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming northwest.
Saturday: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 59. North northwest wind around 9 mph.
Saturday Night: Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 36.
New Year's Day: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 60.
Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.
Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 60.
Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 60.
Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 59.
