Davis Musical Theatre Company kicks out the old and brings in the new with a special presentation of Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb and John Kander's tuneful show-business satire "Chicago." The regular run of the production doesn't start until next Friday, but on Saturday night DMTC will hold a gala celebration that includes the show, a barbecue dinner from Ludy's Main Street of Woodland, party favors, dessert, champagne and music from a live DJ to ring in the New Year. Tickets are $50 for this special night.
John Ewing directs for DMTC with choreography by Pamela Lourentzos, and musical direction by Steve Isaacson and Jonathan Rothman.

Wynter wraps up
B Street Theatre producing artistic director Buck Busfield writes a new play every year for the holidays. This year's offering is "Watching Wynter," a gentle comedy about a meddling mother and two social misfits. It stars Dave Pierini, Dana Brooke and Jayne Taini. The last performances are at 8 p.m. today and 5 p.m. Saturday at the B Street Theatre Main Stage, 2711 B St. Tickets are $18-$30 and $5 for student rush. B Street's Family Series production of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen" also takes it final bows Saturday. Kwanzaa weekend
As the year closes out, the regional Kwanzaa celebrations are holding forth. Honoring African American culture, Kwanzaa is observed from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 each year culminating in food sharing and gift-giving.
Today: The Black United Fund of Sacramento Valley, the Brickhouse Art Gallery and the Sacramento Area Black Caucus celebrate from 6 to 9 p.m today at the Brickhouse Art Gallery, 2837 36th St., Sacramento. They ask participants to bring a dish for the "Karamu" or feast, and bring new unworn, caps, neck scarves and gloves to be donated at homeless shelters. For more information call (916) 484-5025.
