Sightings of a mountain lion along the American River have prompted state parks to post warning signs.
There have been four sightings of the mammals this month. Two of the sightings have been confirmed by employees of the Department of Fish & Game, which has offices at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery.
Signs went up last week telling visitors of the bike trail and the American River what to do if they encounter a lion:
-- Do not run
-- Pick up children
-- Make yourself appear large
-- Shout at the lion to go away
-- Notify state parks
The four sightings occurred between Nimbus Dam and the Lake Natoma Crossing. There have not been any sightings for more than a week, a state park official said.
