After a long decline, analysts believe that the Sacramento region's economy finally bottomed out in 2011. But they also see very slow growth ahead.
The Bee examined a basket of local economic indicators and found that 12 of the 17 measures were up this year. Most showed only moderate gains, echoing local economists' forecasts of sluggish growth.
Some sectors, such as car sales, fared well during the past year. Sales of new cars at the Roseville Automall were up 5.9 percent while revenues from new car dealers in Sacramento County rose 6 percent.
The regional housing market continues to temper any prospects for more robust growth. The glut of homes in the foreclosure pipeline and contin-ued decline in housing construction will keep a lid on real estate values and new construction jobs.
