Sacramento did not share in a national increase in job vacancies advertised online in December, and the ratio of jobless people to positions available remained high locally and statewide.
The latest monthly report by the Conference Board said there were 18,700 ads posted in Sacramento in December, down only slightly from December 2010, but a sharp decline from 22,200 in November.
Sacramento jumped from third to second nationwide in the number of unemployed per online advertised job vacancy, with 5.18 job seekers for every online opening. That trailed only Riverside, with an 8.86-to-1 ratio.
Miami, went from second to third in December, at 5.1-to-1. The national rate is 3.45 to 1.
Last month's statewide ad total of 438,000 was up 12,500 over November. Even so, there were 4.84 California job seekers for every job vacancy advertised online third in the nation behind Mississippi and Kentucky, respectively.
Nationally, jobs advertised online rose 93,800, to about 3.95 million, from November to December. All surveyed regions saw increases.
