January is usually the wettest month of the year -- but weather forecasters are warning of increased fire danger on Saturday.
A combustible mix of high wind, low humidity and dried out forest fuels is prompting the National Weather Service to warn of the possible mountain blazes.
At Blue Canyon along Interstate 80 in the Sierra Nevada, winds are expected to blow steady between 13 and 20 mph, with gusts to 23 mph on Saturday night.
High winds are also expected to be present in the Sacramento with breezes starting tonight and peaking Saturday night with gusts to 20 mph.
Another daytime high record for the date was set in Sacramento on Thursday. The mercury hit 68 degrees downtown, breaking the previous record of 67 degrees set in 1948.
The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region:
Today: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 37. Calm wind.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 62. North northwest wind between 8 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
Saturday: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. North northwest wind between 8 and 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 60. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm.
Sunday night: Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 33.
Monday: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 60.
Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 60.
Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 32.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 60.
Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 33.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 60.
