SOUTH LAKE TAHOE -- Access to the Pope/Baldwin Bike Path, adjacent to Highway 89, will be restricted temporarily for the next 10 days.

A U.S. Forest Service contractor will be removing pine and fir trees from aspen stands on 4.6 acres between Taylor Creek and Spring Creek Road.

Officials said they are removing conifers to protect the habitat for plants and wildlife. Aspen stands often act as natural firebreaks and need abundant sunshine to thrive.
