Catholic Healthcare West has awarded $647,000 in funding to 21 nonprofits in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and Yolo counties.
The grants range from $5,000 to $50,000. Nonprofit organizations receiving the grants include those who provide primary care, mental health care and shelter.
Catholic Healthcare West wants to "help fill the gaps that exist in our region's safety net as a result of the current economy and lack of public funding," said Michael Taylor, a CHW senior vice president of operations.
The grants are funded by contributions from CHW's hospitals, which include Mercy General, Methodist, Mercy San Juan, Mercy of Folsom and Woodland Healthcare.
Among the nonprofits receiving grants this year were Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home, El Dorado County Community Health Center, PRIDE Industries, Sacramento Children's Home, The Effort and Yolo Family Service Agency.
