A weather system forecast for late next week could end Sacramento's long dry spell.
For nearly a month, rainy weather has skirted to the north, bypassing the Sacramento region. Potentially, the jet stream could drop northward mid-to-late next week bringing some rain and snow to Northern California.
The forecast from the National Weather Service calls for rain around Thursday but comes with this caveat: "This scenario could change by next week but at this time the chances of a return to a wetter pattern look promising."
The Sacramento region's forecast:
Today: Areas of frost before 10am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 62. Calm wind becoming north northwest around 5 mph.
Tonight: Patchy fog after 10pm. Patchy frost after 10pm. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 32. Calm wind.
Saturday: Patchy fog before 10am. Patchy frost before 10am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 61. Calm wind.
Saturday night: Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 34. Calm wind.
Sunday: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 58. South wind between 7 and 13 mph.
Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.
M.L.King Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55.
Monday night: Patchy fog after 1am. Areas of frost after 1am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 29.
Tuesday: Patchy fog before 10am. Areas of frost before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 55.
Tuesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58.
Wednesday night: A slight chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 39.
Thursday: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59.
