What: The California State Military Museum will screen the film "The Modoc War," produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting. The war was a conflict between the Modoc Indian tribe and the U.S. Army in southern Oregon and Northern California from 1872 to 1873. After the film, author Cheewa James will discuss and sign copies of her book, "Modoc: The Tribe that Wouldn't Die."

New Year's revelry
What: Jinan, the Sister Cities Council of Sacramento and the Chinese New Year Culture Association are celebrating the Chinese New Year at the Capitol Area Development Authority courtyard. Part of the Second Saturday activities, the event will feature Chinese art and live music from an ancient Guzheng, a Chinese plucked zither.

Model of a hobby
What: The Great Train Expo will roll out operating layouts in a variety of sizes and scales, how-to hobby demonstrations and shopping galore at Cal Expo. There will also be huge operating railroads that are intricately detailed. The hobby offers a chance for participants to be a city planner, structural engineer and conductor at the same time.

Cue up 'Sweet Georgia'
What: The Harlem Globetrotters bring their basketball skills, theater, comedy and legendary theme music to Power Balance Pavilion. New additions to the Globetrotters this year are Paul "Tiny" Sturges (7 feet, 8 inches tall), Jonte "Too Tall" Hall (5 feet, 2 inches) and Fatima "TNT" Maddox, the team's first female player since 1993.
