A hands-on exhibit that enables children to explore the world of science opens Tuesday at the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito.
"Science + You," which will be on display through April 15, is a 1,200-square-foot exhibit that features a child-size laboratory where children can perform interactive science experiments. There also will be a magnification area with specialized microscopes that display objects on a video screen.
The museum is located at the northern foot of the Golden Gate Bridge on the grounds of Fort Baker. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The exhibit is free with admission, which is $11; free for ages 6 months and younger.

Cowboy poet gathering
Fans of the American West may want to head to Elko, Nev., between Jan. 30 and Feb. 4 for the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering.
The festival, now in its 28th year, features open-mike sessions, music jams, cowboy poetry and opportunities to eat, drink, learn a craft or dance the night away.

Music and dance of India
The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco is hosting "Music and Dance From the Courts of Northern India" as a complement to its current exhibits exploring the art and culture of India.
The event, scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, will feature thumri, a vocal music genre that evolved in mid-19th century North India to accompany kathak, a classical Indian dance form.
Tickets are $20 and include admission to "Maharaja: The Splendor of India's Royal Courts," which will be on display through April 8 at the museum, 200 Larkin St.

Tennis star at museum
Tennis great Billie Jean King is scheduled to participate in a moderated conversation at 1 p.m. today at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, 2301 Hardies Lane, Santa Rosa.
The event coincides with the museum's newest exhibition, "Leveling the Playing Field," featuring Schulz's depictions of girls in sports with 86 original "Peanuts" comic strips.
Seating is first come, first served and is included with museum admission, which is $10 for adults; $5 for ages 4 to 18, college students and seniors; free for ages 3 and younger and museum members.
