Quarterly foreclosure filings in the Sacramento region dropped to a four-year low, but they're expected to pick up this year.
San Diego-based DataQuick said Tuesday that local notice of default filings dropped 13 percent to 5,314 during the fourth quarter from the previous quarter's 6,109.
The quarterly tally was the lowest for the four-county Sacramento region since the second quarter of 2007, when Sacramento's foreclosure crisis was at its early stage.
Most experts believe new filings will rise again this year as banks work to reduce their glut of distressed properties. "This is probably a temporary trend and over the next quarter or two, they will catch up," said Andrew LePage, DataQuick analyst.
