A request by Councilwoman Sandy Sheedy for a council discussion of a June ballot measure on an arena financing plan was postponed Tuesday night. It's unclear when that talk will take place.
Sheedy said she postponed her request for the discussion because Councilman Rob Fong was absent from Tuesday's council meeting and she wanted the entire council to weigh in on her proposal.
Sheedy is pushing for a June ballot measure to ask voters if they want to spend public assets on building a new downtown Kings arena. City officials are banking on generating as much as $200 million from the leasing of city-owned parking operations toward the arena's $387 million price tag.
City officials want the City Council to vote next month on a financing "term sheet" for the project, including the parking revenue and contributions from the Kings, the NBA and an arena operator. The NBA has given the city until March 1 to come up with a financing plan or risk losing the Kings.
Only Sheedy and Councilman Darrell Fong have voiced support for placing a measure on the ballot regarding the arena.
