The Sacramento City Unified School District will hold five community budget forums to provide families and employees with information about how the district is proposing to cut $28 million from its budget.
The first forum is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Luther Burbank High School, 3500 Florin Road.
The district is in jeopardy of a negative certification from the Sacramento County Office of Education.
To balance its budget, Sacramento City Unified is recommending eliminating sports, adult education, school librarians, counselors, music teachers, cutting school transportation, reducing funding to Gifted and Talented Education and cutting custodial and plant manager positions by 50 percent.
The recommendations are not final and do not include any items that would need to be negotiated with collective bargaining groups.
