The NBA would love to have Kings rookie guard Jimmer Fredette in Orlando next month for All-Star Weekend. After all, he's Jimmer – and fans can't seem to get enough of him.

But does his performance justify a spot in the rookie-sophomore game or perhaps the three-point shooting contest?

Fredette's numbers are respectable – 8.5 points, 2.1 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 22.7 minutes – but he's shooting just 36.3 percent.

Of the nine players on last season's rookie roster, five were guards. Is Fredette one of the five best rookie guards this season?

There's little argument about the top two: Cleveland's Kyrie Irving, who's making Cavs fans forget the big shot who left town, and Minnesota's Ricky Rubio, who is living up to his hype.

The next tier is New Jersey's MarShon Brooks, Charlotte's Kemba Walker and Detroit's Brandon Knight.

That leaves Fredette in a group that includes New York's Iman Shumpert, Utah's Alec Burks and Miami's Norris Cole.

And don't forget Fredette's teammate, Isaiah Thomas, who is averaging 6.4 points, 2.3 assists and 1.6 rebounds in just 15.9 minutes.

Instead of asking if Fredette is one of the NBA's top rookie guards, should we be asking if Fredette is the best rookie guard on his own team?

What to watch
