All-day music

What: The 23rd annual Folsom High School Jazz Festival will be staged at two locations: Rolling Hills Christian Church in El Dorado Hills and Folsom Lake College's Three Stages theater. More than 130 middle school and high school jazz bands, vocal jazz groups, and combos from California and Nevada will compete. Jazz alto saxophonist Dave Pietro is this year's guest artist.

Where: Rolling Hills Christian Church, 800 White Rock Road, El Dorado Hills; Folsom Lake College, 10 College Parkway, Folsom.

When: Performances begin at 7:10 a.m. Event culminates with a concert and awards ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Rolling Hills Christian Church.

Cost: Tickets are $12 for adults; $9 for seniors and children.

Nature walks

What: Citrus Heights will offer half-hour guided walking tours of the Stock Ranch Nature Preserve. The event is part of a series of workshops to plan nature education features for the 47-acre open-space park along Arcade and San Juan creeks.

Where: 7000 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights.

When: Tours will depart beginning on the hour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from the information booth between Costco and Walmart.

Cost: Free.

Women's self-defense

What: Zen Martial Arts Center, WEAVE Inc. and Sacramento Parks and Recreation are teaming to offer a free women's self-defense and empowerment seminar at the Coloma Community Center. The class for women ages 13 and older will teach women self-defense moves. Experienced instructors will also share important awareness and safety tips. Before and after the class, donations of cash or checks will be accepted for WEAVE, a nonprofit organization.

Where: 4623 T St., Sacramento.

When: 1 to 2 p.m.

Cost: Free.

Bull riders to return

What: The top 40 bull riders take on the toughest bulls in the world at the 2012 Sacramento Invitational at Power Balance Pavilion. Last year, Renato Nunes took home the top prize.

Where: 1 Sports Parkway, Sacramento.

When: 6 p.m. today; 2 p.m. Sunday.

Cost: Tickets range from $10 to $145.

Prom prep

What: Teens and parents are invited to the Teen Prom and Party Expo at Sacramento's Doubletree Hotel. Vendors will showcase dresses, tuxedos, shoes, accessories and more.

When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: Youths, $5; adults and children, free. (Admission is free for those who bring a gently used prom or party item).
