Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op reveals new midtown location

Published: Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 - 11:24 am

The Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op plans to build a new store and parking garage on the same midtown block now sporting a Temple coffee store and Revolution Wines' tasting room and restaurant.

In a website posting, the Co-op board disclosed the plans Monday morning, about two weeks after General Manager Paul Cultrera told members that a new store site had been found.

If plans for the new store are approved by members in March, construction of the 40,000-square-foot building and adjacent garage would begin in February of 2013 with a store opening planned in 2014.

The new store will be on the northwest corner of 28th and R streets. The four-story garage, with 241 spaces to be shared by co-op shoppers and county employees, will be on the block's southwest corner.

There also will be 61 surface parking spaces in front of the store.

The new operation will consolidate co-op operations that are now spread out in five different locations, while adding sales space and parking for an organizaton that long ago outgrew its facilities.

Co-op spokeswoman Wendy Hoyt said one goal is to provide "connectivity" between the new store and the coffee and wine stores on the same block.
