PARIS RYAN / Special to The Bee

Bartender Thomas Pierce prepares two Jolly Rancher cocktails, which taste like the watermelon- flavored candy but are an adult drink. Also, they're unusually un-green for the establishment.

The Broiler Steakhouse/ Gallagher's Irish Pub

1201 K St., Sacramento

(916) 444-3444

Hours: Gallagher's: 11 a.m.-midnight Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Thursday and Friday, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday, 4-10 p.m. Sunday. (Depending on how busy the bar is, Gallagher's may close a little earlier or later than the set time.)

The Broiler Steakhouse: Lunch, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday; dinner, 5-10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 4-9 p.m. Sunday

Happy hour: 3-7 p.m. Monday through Friday

The real steal: Choose $2 bottles of beer, $3; 16-ounce pints (including Guinness), $4; well cocktails and $5 selected wines by the glass. Or go for one of the "7-7-7" deals: You get an appetizer and drink for just $7 such as Irish nachos and Toasted Head Chardonnay, or calamari and a well drink. All pub fare is half-off, ranging from $2.50 to $6.50. The most popular items are the calamari, prime rib French dip and the American Kobe beef burger.

The vibe: Get a taste of Ireland at Gallagher's Irish Pub, where the walls, ceiling, carpet and even chairs are green. There are mirrors around the wall featuring spirits such as Jameson Irish Whiskey, Harp Lager and the ever-popular Guinness. And in the back corner, you'll find a dartboard for a pub game they take seriously on the Emerald Isle. Gallagher's, by the way, is where your drink will be made when you order it at the Broiler. They are both part of the same restaurant.

Signature drink: Though not part of the happy hour special, the Irish car bombs tend to be the most popular choice, made with a shot of Bushmills whiskey, a touch of Bailey's and about a half-pint of Guinness. The Irish car bomb is a must-have at Gallagher's. Bathroom break: Tucked away behind the bar, the bathroom has two stalls and a cozy sink area with a faux rose and ivy plant. There is even a chair inside the bathroom, as well as one right outside it if you're waiting for a friend.

Alternative libations: The Toasted Head Chardonnay and the vodka tonic tend to be the most commonly ordered.

Something extra: The best seat in the house is the back table, by the dartboard. It tends to be really popular because it feels private but has easy access to the bar. There are four seats at the table; however you can always grab extra seats if you have a larger group.Seasons Restaurant
