The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department on Friday released the names of deputies involved in three shootings last month.
On Jan. 8, deputies Christopher Bittle, Christopher Britton, Scott Brown and Jeffrey Finch were involved in the shooting of 51-year-old Bill Stevens.
Authorities said Stevens, who later was arrested, led deputies on a chase before accelerating his car in the direction of deputies near El Camino and Howe avenues. A California Highway Patrol officer was injured during the chase.
On Jan. 15, Deputy Mark Limbird shot 23-year-old Lonnie Hammett after Hammett reportedly punched the deputy and fled near a closed county building on Fulton Avenue. The deputy gave chase and soon caught the suspect. The pair fell down an embankment and into a creek, where Hammett continued punching the deputy, authorities said. Hammett survived and later was arrested.
On Jan. 17, Deputy David McEntire fatally shot 24-year-old Johnathan Rose after Rose tackled the deputy in his family's North Highlands home, according to authorities. Rose's family members said he was mentally ill.
