Re "Cities Wary of Parking Leases" (Page A1, Feb. 5):
The City of Sacramento has had to lay off police officers, cut back on fire protection, and reduce parks maintenance. Redevelopment funding is gone. The proposal to foreswear $9 million/year of city income over the next 50 years - or even 30 years - is the height of mismanagement.
Further, to give up control over the price of downtown parking, necessary in order to attract interest in the lease, is to lose control over a key tool to ensure that downtown is attractive to other businesses needed for its revitalization. Who will come downtown to shop, go to the the theatre or visit a restaurant when free or cheaper parking is available elsewhere?
If this is the best that we can do, then the public price of the new arena is too high. I urge the city council to reject this proposal for the good of downtown and the City of Sacramento.

• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
