Kudos to: Nancy Ginesi-Hill

Accomplishment: Named Woman Pilot of the Year by the Southwest section of the Ninety Nines.

Details: Founded in 1929, with Amelia Earhart as its first president, the Ninety Nines promotes female aviation. Ginesi-Hill is chairwoman of the Ninety Nines Sacramento Valley Chapter. She has been a pilot for more than 22 years. She first became interested in flying when a story about the local Ninety Nines made the front page of the newspaper.

Kudos to: Annabeth Rosen

Accomplishment: Rosen, a UC Davis art professor, is among 25 recipients of $25,000 awards in the 2011 Painters and Sculptors Grant Program.

Details: The grant comes from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, named after the abstract expressionist painter. The grants seek to acknowledge artists for creating works of exceptional quality. Rosen holds the Robert Arneson Chair in Ceramic Sculpture.

Kudos to: University of California, Davis

Accomplishment: UC Davis earned a top-25 ranking among colleges and universities with the most undergraduate alumni serving as Peace Corps volunteers last year.

Details: The corps said that 63 Aggie alums were serving in the organization around the world. Aggies in the Peace Corps include Erica Gallegos, a 2007 graduate working as an education volunteer in Panama.

Kudos to: Rio Americano High School jazz musicians

Accomplishment: The musicians made it to the finals at the Charles Mingus High School Jazz Competition in New York City.

Details: The festival features 12 ensembles from the nation's finest high school jazz programs. The Rio students are directed by Max Kiesner and Josh Murray.
