National Weather Service meteorologist Drew Peterson woke up this morning and thought he was on to something - serious rain.
Turns out the moisture fell a little bit short of a monsoon.
When he came to work and looked at the measurements, he saw .02 inches at Sacramento Executive Airport, not even a measurable amount downtown and no more than .03 inches anywhere else in the county.
"Really light precipitation," Peterson said, and no surprise at that. "It's around what we were expecting. This wasn't associated with a very strong system."
Looking at the mountains, Peterson found only about an inch of new powder at the Sierra at Tahoe and Heavenly resorts.
"Very limited amounts," he said. "Very light precipitation with this system."
With the weak dynamics of the weak system weakening by the minute, Peterson detected a high pressure system strengthening over the eastern Pacific Ocean.
Accompanying the high pressure will be spring-like weather later in the week. Peterson said it will likely be in the upper 60s on Tuesday and into the mid-70s on Wednesday. By the end of the week, the temperature should be back to normal for this time of year, around 63 degrees, Peterson said.
Today's high should hit 60. It'll drop into the low 40s tonight.
Peterson said it's too soon to even make a guess for next week. "None of the models are in agreement," he said.
