Regional Digest: UC Davis softball pitcher strikes out 15 in win

Freshman Justine Vela struck out 15 Tuesday as the UC Davis softball team beat Santa Clara 3-2 in San Jose, UC Davis reported.

Vela (2-4) allowed six hits in her complete game, recording the final six outs on strikeouts.

The Aggies (4-8) broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Kelly Schulze and Kayla Tyler.

The Broncos (1-10) lost their ninth consecutive game.

suspended after 11 innings

Darkness suspended the baseball game between UC Davis and host San Jose State with the score 3-3 after 11 innings, UC Davis reported.

No date was immediately set for the game's resumption.

Trailing 2-0, the Aggies were hitless entering the sixth inning, when they turned a walk and four singles into three runs. UC Davis had only one hit thereafter.

Hornets golfers place fourth in invitational

Sacramento State golfers Julie Shutler and Jake Johnson finished fourth in the Folino Invitational in Industry Hills, Sac State reported.

Shutler closed with a 3-over-par 74 for a 9-over 222 total, two shots behind winner Tara Green of Montana. The Hornets placed fifth in the 12-team field, 43 shots behind winner Gonzaga.

Johnson closed with a 75 for a 218 score, three shots behind co-medalists Parker Page of Pepperdine and Tyler Torano of Loyola Marymount. The Hornets finished fourth in the 10-team field, nine shots behind winner Long Beach State.
