GARDEN-RELATED ACTIVITIES

FOURTH ANNUAL SACRAMENTO VALLEY CYMBIDIUM SOCIETY SHOW AND SALE

Where: Shepard Garden and Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd., Sacramento

When: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today

Admission: Free

Details: www.sacramento cymbidiums.org; Cymbidiums are outdoor-growing orchids that thrive in Sacramento weather with no greenhouse. This event shows off scores of beautiful blooming cymbidiums. In addition, hundreds will be offered for sale, along with growing supplies including planting mix and fertilizers specially formulated for our region. Also, free classes will teach you how to grow these hardy orchids and make them re-bloom year after year. Repotting will be demonstrated, or bring in your overgrown plant and let the society's experts repot it for you for a small donation.

GIANT PUMPKIN GROWERS FORUM

Where: The pavilion in Elk Grove Park, 9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Elk Grove

When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. next Saturday

Admission: $20 in advance, $30 at door

Gear up for next fall's Giant Pumpkin Festival with a forum devoted to growing king-size veggies. Current champion Leonardo Urena – who set a state record with a 1,704- pound pumpkin at Half Moon Bay's 2011 weigh-in – will be the keynote speaker. Urena also won the 2011 Elk Grove pumpkin festival with a 1,684.5-pounder. Get answers from experts. Seed for humongous pumpkins will be available for sale. Forum includes a catered lunch.

88TH ANNUAL SACRAMENTO CAMELLIA SHOW

Where: Memorial Auditorium, 1515 J St., Sacramento

When: 3-6 p.m. next Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 4

Admission: Free

The granddaddy of Sacramento floral shows celebrates the city's official flower in style. With the theme "Crazy for Camellias," the event features hundreds of gorgeous blooms. In addition, about 200 plants will be offered for sale.

WINGS AND WINE

Where: High Hand Nursery, 3750 Taylor Road, Loomis

When: 5:30-8 p.m. next Saturday

Admission: $15 in advance, $25 at door

This benefit for Gold Country Wildlife Rescue features local wine, appetizers and a visit with special guests: owls, hawks, falcons and one really big eagle – all rescued by Gold Country.

The 31st annual edition of Sacramento's original home show fills 10 exhibit halls at Cal Expo with the latest in home and garden innovations. Get ready for spring with products and help from hundreds of vendors. Bring a can of food to donate to a local food bank and get $1 off admission.
