Night Life: Happy hour at Bombay Bar and Grill

Published: Friday, Mar. 16, 2012 - 12:00 am | Page 32TICKET

Bombay Bar and Grill

1315 21st St., Sacramento

(916) 441-7100

www.bombaybarandgrillsacramento.com

Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday- Saturday

Happy hour: 2-6 p.m. daily

The real steal: Enjoy $3 draft beers, Pabst Blue Ribbon, wine by the glass and well drinks. Cocktails are $5, and the specialty cocktails and martinis are $7 during happy hour. Appetizers range from $1.95 to $6.95 and are perfect to split with a couple of friends. Make sure to try the vegetable pakora, assorted tandoori and spicy barbecue chicken wings.

The vibe: At the front of the restaurant, two guardian idols await your entrance. Inside, the dark colors such as teal and maroon take over the wall and curtains in the bar area. Purple and red hanging lamps dangle above the bar itself, and light Bollywood music plays in the background. Opposite the bar, you see rich oranges and gold accents take over the dining area. Heavy curtains, artwork, and hanging lights brighten up the already rich room, leaving you with the beautiful contrast of bold colors in one room and dark colors in the other.

Signature drink: The signature drink is Bombay Bar and Grill's unique spicy cilantro margarita, which is $7 during happy hour.

Bathroom break: Tucked between the bar area and the restaurant, the bathroom is a private one, with two mirrors and plenty of space to touch up and get back to your meal as quickly as possible.

Alternative libations: The mango lassi is a very popular yogurt-based drink at many Indian restaurants. Try Bombay Bar and Grill's adult version of the classic drink, the tropical mango, a lassi mixed with rum. It is $7 during happy hour.

Something extra: Happy hour works only at the bar; however, the bar itself is the perfect seat in the house. During happy hour, a Bollywood film is played on the TV in front of the bar, and sports are on the two TVs to the side. The cushioned bar stools and marble countertop make the bar a very comfortable and convenient spot to order another drink or appetizer, as well as relax and enjoy the movie or a game on television.
