Sacramento activists, including Occupy and other community groups, announced they will participate in "national hoodie day" today to protest the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.
Martin, 17, was shot and killed in Sanford, Fla., by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain. Zimmerman, who claimed he acted in self-defense, has not been arrested.
The March for Social Justice in Sacramento will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Southside Park, Sixth and T streets, and proceed to a rally at 13th and K streets, according to a news release.
A march to the state attorney general's office will follow, and a rally at the north steps of the state Capitol is scheduled at 1:30 p.m.
The Sacramento marches and rallies will also commemorate people who have died in officer-involved shootings in the Sacramento region and the Bay Area.
