Sacramento Police Department officials copied files and information from the district-issued computer of Twin Rivers Unified Superintendent Frank Porter as part of an independent investigation into alleged misconduct by the district's Police Department.

"It's an active and ongoing investigation," said Sacramento police spokeswoman Michele Gigante. "The Sacramento Police Department is – at the request of Twin Rivers – assisting in the investigation into administrative and criminal allegations."

Gigante said she could not comment on the specifics of the investigation. Twin Rivers spokeswoman Trinette Marquis confirmed that information was copied from Porter's computer, but said his actual computer wasn't taken. As superintendent, Porter oversaw the district's Police Department along with Deputy Superintendent Ziggy Robeson.

Marquis said she did not know whether files on Robeson's computer were copied.

Porter, 61, announced earlier this month that he will retire June 30.

Porter's retirement comes as the district is facing civil lawsuits from former employees and scrutiny from the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, the FBI and the state attorney general's office over a number of issues, including allegations that district police used state criminal justice computers to run hundreds of background checks on adult education students, as well as high school students.

The district's Police Chief Christopher Breck has been on paid administrative leave since November.

The district also has been the target of a long-standing probe by the Sacramento County grand jury.

Meanwhile, all but one of the district's seven school board seats are being contested in the June 5 election. It's the first board race since the inaugural group of trustees of the new district took office in 2008.
