What's up: What's up in Dixon?

Fun for everyone at the May Fair

What: The Dixon May Fair has a full slate of entertainment and rides when the annual event hits the fairgrounds next month. Who will perform? Country crooner Kellie Pickler on May 11 and Larry the Cable Guy, in photo at left, on May 12, and that's just for starters.

When: May 10-13; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. general fair hours. Carnival rides: open 2 p.m. Thursday; noon, Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; all concerts, 7 p.m.

Cost: $12 for adults, free for children 4 and under, $7 for children ages 5-12, $8 for seniors 65 and up and $8 for active military personnel. Fair admission does not include entry to the concerts. Destruction Derby tickets are $22.

WHAT'S IN A WORD?

An innovative art exhibit

What: "Writings on the Wall" is a unique collection of love poems by some of Sacramento's best-known visual artists, performers and writers. The artwork is mounted on wood and will be on display as part of a traveling exhibit that's coming to Stockton Boulevard. The 32 works include pieces from Charles Curtis Blackwell, Dawn Dibartola and M.E. Miller.

When: Exhibit opens from 1-4 p.m. Saturday and continues through May 26 with special performances throughout the month. Regular gallery hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

WHAT A DUO

Singing in Grass Valley

What: Rosanne Cash will perform with her husband, guitarist John Leventhal, in a show at the Center for the Arts. Cash still gets rave reviews for her 2009 release of "The List," an album compiled from a list of country songs given to her at age 18 by her father, the legendary Johnny Cash.

When: 8 p.m. Friday, doors open at 7.

Cost: $65 members, $75 nonmembers
