Months after the death of an oil worker there, the ground still festers around Chevron's Well 20 in the Midway-Sunset Oil Field west of Bakersfield, where steam- injection drilling had been used. In June 2010, the ground shook, opened up and swallowed Robert David Taylor, who died in scalding fluid and hydrogen sulfide.
