Junior-lightweight boxing contender Vicente Escobedo won decisively before a hometown audience Saturday night.
Escobedo (26-3) won by a unanimous decision over Juan Ruiz (23-10) of Santa Clarita in their 10-round main event at the Woodland Community & Senior Center.
Escobedo was unable to register a knockdown against a smaller opponent who has never been knocked out and was able to crowd him and take away his reach advantage.
The judges' scores were 99-91, 100-90 and 100-90.
Two months ago in the same ring, Escobedo needed only one round to put away a higher-regarded opponent, Lonnie Smith of Las Vegas.
The lopsided decision keeps the top-ranked Escobedo on track to challenge Adrien Broner, the World Boxing Organization undefeated 130-pound champion, later this year.
In a featured preliminary bout, before an estimated crowd of 800, junior welterweight Bret de la Torre (2-1) of Vacaville was knocked out in the second round by Moris Rodriguez (3-0-1) of Chico.
Also, lightweights Ulises Soriano of Richmond (2-0-1) and Gabriel Pineda (1-0-1) of Hillsboro, Ore., fought to a four-round draw.
Featherweight Luis Villagomez of Fresno won his professional debut with a third-round technical knockout over Denis Madriz (0-1-1) of Redwood City.
In the semi-main, junior middleweight Oscar Godoy (5-2) of Watsonville stopped Jaime Del Cid (8-7) of Mexico in the second round.
