Published: Friday, Jun. 8, 2012 - 12:00 am | Page 35TICKET

3 Fires Lounge

1501 L St., Sacramento

(916) 267-6823

Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Friday, 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Saturday (closing time applies to the kitchen; the bar is open until the last person leaves)

Happy hour: 3-7 p.m. Monday through Friday

The real steal: Select from $5 small plates such as sliders and fries, small pizzas, or cheesy bread during happy hour. Drinks range from $2.75 for domestic beer to $3.50 for the house cabernet, chardonnay and white zinfandel by the glass, $4 well drinks and $5 Smirnoff martinis.

They also have specials on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Monday is sports night with complimentary nachos, peanuts and pretzels from 6 to 7 p.m. Enjoy taco Tuesdays with $2 tacos and Coronitas during happy hour, and on Wednesdays, enjoy "Bubbles and Bling" during happy hour, with champagne by the glass and champagne cocktail specials. You may even be the lucky winner who goes home that night with a gift from Tiffany & Co.

The vibe: This upscale yet rustic lounge on the corner of the Residence Inn Marriott is filled with large windows. Tea light candles in tall silver stands are placed around the almost circular granite-top bar. A wall of unfinished wood with a mirrored arch in the center is nearly filled with liquor. Two flat-screen TVs flank the bar, and high tables and couches are placed around the lounge for additional seating.

There is also a partially covered patio outside if you want a breath of fresh air.

Signature drink: The $5 ginger lemon drop Smirnoff martini is the martini of choice during happy hour. It is made with a house-made ginger syrup, fresh lemon and Smirnoff vodka for a sweet and tart flavor with a burst of spice from the ginger.

Bathroom break: This elegant bathroom is tucked away in the hotel lobby. It has three wooden stall doors, a granite countertop and two hanging lamps above the sinks. There is a mirror at the entrance to the bathroom as well as over the three sinks, which leaves you ample space for touch-ups. The bathroom is bathed in a warm amber color scheme, and saffron-colored glass tiles cover the wall behind the sink.

Alternative libations: The $5 peach de poire is a popular cocktail during happy hour with a refreshing sweet and tangy flavor. Pear vodka, peach schnapps, lemonade, and sweet and sour are blended to create this springtime drink.

Something extra: Happy hour works all over the lounge, but the best and most comfortable seats in the restaurant would have to be at one of the couches. They're located near the large windows and are easy to rearrange so you can enjoy a small, intimate happy hour with just a couple of friends or a large group. The couches are close enough to the bar to easily grab another round of drinks but far enough for a more private gathering. The plush couches also let you easily watch the game on one of the TVs.
