Each year, the state ranks schools based on their Academic Performance Index (API), a composite of test score results. The latest test results showed a sharp decline in top-ranked local schools and an increase in schools ranked toward the bottom.
Student performance on standardized tests often closely correlates with poverty -- many of the lowest ranked schools have a high proportion of low income students. This map shows how each public school in the region ranks against all other schools statewide in test score performance. Also shown after clicking an icon is the "similar schools" rank -- a controversial measure that compares schools only to others with similar demographics.

Note: Schools of one type -- elementary, middle, high -- are ranked only against other schools of the same type. Some small schools are not given API scores, and are not ranked.
