Gas prices have stabilized of late, but low crude oil prices eased pain at pumps statewide over the past month.
Gasoline prices in California fell by an average of 40 cents to $3.70 a gallon from June to July, according to the latest monthly gas-price survey released today by AAA.
In Northern California, the average price of $3.71 represented a decline of 41 cents from the June 12 survey. In Sacramento, the average was $3.60 a gallon, down 40 cents from last month.
Marysville saw the biggest month-to-month decline of all California communities surveyed by AAA - down 50 cents to $3.54 a gallon.
Nationwide, the average was $3.38, down 16 cents from June.
"The recent drop at the pump was largely driven by lower crude oil prices around the globe," said Matt Skryja, a spokesman for AAA Northern California. "The decline is linked to a slew of concerns about global economic weakness, including worries about sovereign debt in Europe, signs of a slowing economy in China and bearish economic data in the United States."
