Dad's Kitchen

Hours: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday- Friday. Brunch: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Lunch: 2-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Dinner: 5-9 p.m. Saturday, 5-8 p.m. Sunday

Happy hour: 2-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday

The real steal: Choose from a $2 domestic pint or $7 pitcher of Pabst Blue Ribbon, $3.50 premium pint or $13 premium pitcher, and a $3 glass of Happy Red or Happy White wine by the glass during happy hour. On Tuesdays they also offer a pint of Two Rivers cider for $4.50 or pitcher for $17, and all day Tuesday all of the beers are available for the happy hour price.

Appetizers range from $1 to $9, including street or veggie tacos, mac 'n' cheese, deep-fried garbanzo beans and garlic-wine mushrooms.

The beers and ciders constantly change so you can try a plethora of new drinks such as strawberry lemonade, raspberry, blood orange and watermelon ciders.

Dad's Kitchen is health conscious, offering all-natural ciders with no sugar or additives, and serving ketchup made without corn syrup.

The vibe: This laid-back joint gives you the feel of a tap house with a health-conscious spin. Wooden tables and cushioned chairs allow for a comfortable dining experience.

Multiple ceiling fans keep the place cool, and a pair of chalkboards display daily specials – that also are photographed and posted to Dad's Kitchen's Facebook and Twitter pages. Desserts – including an apple pie from Freeport Bakery next door – are displayed near the register.

A covered patio is cooled by fans and misters.

Signature drink: There are nine beers and one cider on tap at all times, however they constantly change. Part of the fun of Dad's Kitchen is discovering a new favorite. They try to keep the beverage offerings local – Cloverdale, Knee Deep, Ale Industries, Loomis Basin, Berryessa, Speakeasy, 21st Amendment and Track 7 beers, to name a few. Premium beers are $3.50 per pint or $13 for a pitcher during happy hour.

Bathroom break: The private bathroom is easily accessed since it's on your way in or out of the restaurant.

Alternative libations: Besides beer and cider, Dad's Kitchen also offers a red and white wine by the glass for $3 during happy hour. Their Happy White is their own chardonnay made in Lodi that's light and slightly sweet without a real oaky or heavy flavor.

Something extra: Happy hour works all over the restaurant.
