The Sacramento County coroner has released the cause of Harison Long-Randall's sudden death early Sunday, tying it to the July 16 hit-and-run incident in Carmichael that also left his girlfriend badly injured.
Coroner Greg Wyatt said in an email to The Bee on Wednesday that the 21-year-old Grass Valley man died from "complications of multiple blunt force trauma."
Long-Randall's death came after his family members said he had appeared to be improving from critical injuries, including the severing of one leg, inflicted when a hit-and-run driver struck him and Gemily West, 23, at a speed estimated at 80 mph.
The death has prompted a review by District Attorney Jan Scully into whether new charges should be filed against the suspected driver, Paul William Walden, 31.
Walden faces charges of driving under the influence, hit and run, and driving on a suspended license as well as cruelty to animals in the deaths of West's four dogs.
