Kim Conley, a former standout at UC Davis and a member of the Sacramento Running Association's Elite Team, ran a personal best Tuesday in her 5,000 meters qualifying heat but failed to advance to Friday's final.

Conley finished 12th in the second heat with a 15-minute, 14.48-second effort, easily topping her previous best of 15:19.79 six weeks ago in her third-place finish at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore.

The fastest woman in Tuesday's heats was Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia with a time of 14:58.48.

Two of Conley's U.S. teammates, Molly Huddle and Julie Culley, advanced. Culley was fifth in the first heat in 15:05.38; Huddle placed fifth in the second heat in 15:02.26.
