Roxy Restaurant and Bar

2381 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento

(916) 489-2000

www.roxyrestaurantandbar.com

Hours: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday

Happy hour: 3 p.m.-close Monday, 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, 3-6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday

The real steal: Select from $3 taps such as Sierra Nevada seasonal, a special selection beer – currently the Ruhstaller 1881 – or Stella Artois. For $3.50, it offers bottled beers including Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors Light, Corona, Guinness, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Hoegaarden, Pyramid hefeweizen and St. Pauli Girl, as well as a red or white house wines by the glass. For a dollar more, select from well cocktails, margaritas and Roxy cocktails such as a prickly pear margarita or Ole Blue, which is a citrus vodka cocktail made with Blue Curacao and lemonade.

Appetizers range from $2 to $5, and the options include the Lucky Dog Ranch half-pound burger, the vegetarian stuffed gypsy, peppers with piquillo vinaigrette, the one bacon wrapped prawn, or the braised beef and goat cheese-stuffed pepper.

The vibe: Roxy has a Paris-meets-ranch theme with intricate crystal light fixtures, a carved wooden bar, Brazilian cowhide booths and some western-themed paintings

The glass windows at the front of the restaurant all can be opened up, letting you enjoy the fresh, cool breeze.

The owners of Roxy also own Lucca in midtown Sacramento, and have a ranch – Lucky Dog Ranch in Dixon. All of the beef comes from Lucky Dog and is all natural.

Signature drink: The Ranahan is one of the cocktails invented by bar manager Andy Maher and bartender Matt Gonzalez. This refreshing drink is made with bourbon, ginger liqueur and ginger ale, and is $4.50 during happy hour. The bourbon makes it sweet, while the ginger adds a kick of spice.

Bathroom break: The hallway past the kitchen to the restroom is decorated with photographs of the Lucky Dog Ranch. The bathroom itself has two sinks, two stalls and a large mirror.

Alternative libations: The $4.50 watermelon margarita tastes like the essence of summer, and it's light pink. This sweet-yet-salty cocktail is made with a house-made watermelon purée, tequila, sweet and sour, and is finished off with a salt rim.

Something extra: Happy hour works at the bar and patio. However, to enjoy the best of both worlds, try to snag the four-seat high table near the patio door. The door to the patio is often left open, bringing in a cool breeze and warm splash of sunshine while you're still indoors, close to the bar in case you want to get another round of drinks, and have a prime view of the flat-screen TV at the bar. If you have a smaller group, there are round two-seat tables across from the bar, or if you have a large party, there is a large, round table at the end of the bar, as well as a large table for 10 to 12 people in the patio.
